Our Winter/Spring Season is set to open with Body 13. This captivating and emotional piece is the latest production from MT Space, the company who produced last year’s hugely successful “The Last 15 Seconds.”

The MT Space, a Kitchener/Waterloo based theatre company, was founded in 2004 by Artistic Director Majdi Bou-Matar. Since then the company has produced work that is both award winning and critically acclaimed. MT Space Productions have toured Canada and the world. In Canada they have toured Hamilton, London, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Saint John, Fredericton, Victoria and Vancouver.  International stops have included Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

The MT Space operates on a mandate to create and present artistic performances and cultural events for and by the people who live in the area. The company aims to draws its stories from and present them to the contemporary Canadian community.

Their previous show,  “The Last 15 Seconds” explored ideas surrounding terrorism through an imagined dialogue between filmmaker Mustapha Akkad (who was killed in  2005 attack), and Rawad Jassem Mohammad Abed (the suicide bomber who triggered the explosion). The conversations and memories that are imagined throughout the story are told verbally and physically, as is the style MT Space is becoming known for. Now Magazine gave it a NNN rating and The Star gave the show a 4 star review.

I had the opportunity to see the Last 15 Seconds twice. Both times while still at Theatre school, and both productions in Kitchener. The first was a workshop production, and the second was a more polished version they were getting ready to take on tour. Both times I thoroughly enjoyed the show and it got better as the show evolved.  If you take MT Space’s track record of captivating storytelling and mix it with the fact that they’re plays continue to evolve with each run of the show, I am excited for what we will see when Body 13 opens next month.
