Praxis Theatre has been doing a great job blogging about the challenges of indie artists (notably in Toronto, but elsewhere too) over the past few years. They’ve talked a lot about how to work with Canadian Actors Equity to continue protecting artists but also provide more flexibility and ease in creation for the increasing number of artists who identify as both actors and producers, the classic actor/creator hybrid. For Passe Muraille this is an issue close to our hearts as we create many and varied agreements with these actor/creators in order to bring their work to the stage.
Canadian Actors Equity has an election on right now in Ontario and in other provinces as well to decide who will be the new Equity Council members. Voting is open to CAEA members until the end of this month. Here’s the full slate of candidates in Ontario as well as a recent Praxis blog regarding candidates who are specifically seeking change for indie creators.
