Dear Mary Walsh,
You are a hero of mine. You make me laugh–and you kick the pricks where they should be kicked. These are two aspects of a person I admire the most. Keep brave, strong and true. But in the meantime, allow yourself the time to get better. Be a little easier on yourself. You can’t rush this. We need you well and thriving. But in the meantime, rest well.

Mary,
As I said when I introduced you on the panel at Ryerson a few years ago, you are to Canada what the Japanese say about their greats: a Living National Treasure. It was great to meet you again in Cannes a couple of years ago and I hope you’re up and at ‘em again soon.

Dear Mary,
I bought a ticket for your show (first preview) and was so distressed on the night to learn that you were in the hospital. I’ve too have suffered from respiratory infections and know how miserable they can make you feel. I hope you’re a lot better now and that we will see you in Toronto soon. I was thinking of my first visit to St. John’t recently-thirty years ago last month. I spent almost the entire weekend with you and got “storm-stayed” an extra day by a blizzard. I won’t reminisce here (and I’m sure you don’t want me to) but hopefully a chance to do so in person will arise before too long. Much love, Curtis

Dear Mary :
I had a ticket for your show for last weekend, and was so sorry to learn of your illness. I’m very glad to hear that you are now back home, and I wish you a speedy and full recovery. I’m hoping that you will be able to perform “Dancing With Rage” here in Toronto in the near future … I’m sure that Rob Ford will provide you with A LOT MORE material (and a lot more RAGE) for your show, during the time you are home recovering (maybe he’ll even propose extending the Sheppard Subway all the way TO ST. JOHN’S !!!). Wishing you all the very best, Harold

Dear Mary,
Pneumonia? That’s it? That’s what’s keeping you there and not here? I would have thought that not even a herd of wild horses, a few broncos or even a Ford or two could not stop you from performing. So I guess it was very serious indeed that kept you from us. Get better soon then strap on that brass breast plate and come here and let us share the love and your rage. All the best, Lynn Slotkin

Think positive thoughts. Visualize the last of those nasty cells disappearing from your body. Use your incredible sense of humour to heal. Know that there are so many across the country who are wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
I look forward to seeing your show when you are in good form — it will be well worth the wait. Anyone who had the guts to take on Rob Ford in his driveway is a heroine in my book. You made him look like the fool that he is.
Yes, you are a national treasure — you make us proud to be Canadians. I am sending good vibes your way.

OK Mary: Everyone is being so nice to you it is ridiculous. You would think all of Toronto is in love with you and perhaps they are. I must admit I am selfish! I want to see you, hear you, read about you, enjoy and laugh and rant with you. So just sit there and do nothing until your body decides it is time to get going again. Don’t rush it. Yes I am disappointed but am more interested in seeing you here all better. With great admiration.
